About Us

Mary Wise

Prior to working with animals I had a busy career as an Operations Manager, often working long hours and away at weekends. After getting my pets I realised I wanted more out of life. I wanted to be able to spend more time with them and fulfil my aspiration of working with animals professionally. So in 2015 I began studying Animal Behaviour and attended a number of intensive 1-2-1 training days with practicing behaviourists. Then in early 2016 I launched our pet care business in Milton Keynes which went from strength to strength immediately; we won an award in 2017 for Best Local Business and the team grew in numbers to meet the demand for high quality pet care.

Whilst I love working with all animals I have a real affinity to cats, especially seniors and those who have had a tough start to life and might be presenting with fear-based ‘aggression’. I firmly believe that many cats are misunderstood and labelled as naughty or nasty when in fact they are suffering emotionally, mentally and physically. During my training over the last couple of years it became even more apparent just how many cats have not been properly socialised when young, and subsequently go on to suffer unnecessary stress when they have to go to the vets and groomers, or encounter other new situations and environments. Catastic was born out of a desire to do more for these cats. I am passionate about working with new kitten owners to teach the importance of socialisation and grooming acceptance, in order to avoid the type of stress so many cats live with on a day-to-day basis; to help manage behaviour concerns and prevent re-homing; and to raise awareness around the different issues our senior cats face as they get older and what we can do to help them feel comfortable, and free of pain and anxiety.

I qualified as a Master Cat Groomer with the London Cat Grooming School in 2022 and I am currently working towards full practitioner status as a Clinical Animal Behaviourist with the Animal Training and Behaviour Council (ABTC). I am a member of a number of other organisations and attend regular webinars and training which you can read about here.

Meet the Team

The first thing to mention is that we are not an agency. The ladies pictured here have been working with me since 2016, providing round the clock pet care in the Milton Keynes area (along with some villages in Bedfordshire and Northamptonshire). The team has grown a bit since this picture was taken but our standards are the same. All of us hold comprehensive pet care insurance, are DBS cleared and participate in regular training sessions to keep our knowledge up to date. Pet care is not a side line gig for us, it is what we do 365 days of the year and absolutely love it!

Pancake

Pancake

The inspiration behind the business – Pancake: an Exotic Shorthair cat who is 9 years old. He has taught me many important lessons over the years regarding the impact of stress and what it does to our health, and our animals health! Stress plays such a huge role in many chronic health conditions our pets are faced with these days, with emotional pain and suffering often going unnoticed as we live our fast paced lives. Seeing this all first-hand in my own home ignited the passion I feel for Catastic and wanting to help as many cats as possible to live longer, healthier and happier lives, free from unnecessary stress, fear, anxiety or pain.
